The Great Expanse of Genesis 1
The Lord God was going through His acts of creation in the book of Genesis. In Genesis 1:6 the Bible says :
6 And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning–the second day.
In a couple of verses God talks to us about the creation of the great expanse that separates ” water above from the waters below,” and He calls it “SKY.”
Our understanding of sky is the atmosphere that surrounds and protects the earth from the outer atmosphere and beyond into outer space.
The earth’s atmosphere has 5 layers:
- Troposphere
- Stratosphere
- Mesosphere
- Thermosphere
- Exosphere
The Atmospheric gases get thinner as you go higher up, lowest layer is most dense.
